Environmental Portrait

Photography is awesome, but storytelling in photography can take a lot of planning and proper selection. I was tasked with taking an environment portrait of a space that is “home” to someone else, like their workspace, home, desk, wherever they spend a lot of time. An environmental portrait is capturing the essence and fullness of a space, being genuine and true with the visuals of it. I decided to photograph Maylea Rivera. Maylea is a 19-year-old Fine Art Major at Towson University. She was taking a screen-printing and printmaking course at her school during the process of the photoshoot. She is hardworking and does whatever she can to get things done, even at the latest of hours. The studio was dark and empty of people, but there was evidence of the many classes and users around. Life captured in the environment.
